Leon explained the process of the Earths rotation. He did this by making a pendulum. The pendulum would slowly start in a straight line but after a little it would begin to curve. Newton's laws of motion clearly state that an object does not change the direction of it's motion unless a force is acted upon it. Foucault had learned that the force upon the pendulum was actually the Earth's rotation.
