27 August 2012-29 August 2012 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Art
Following last weeks brainstorming and preparation students have begun working on self portraits. It is important for students to complete self portraits to investigate aspects of their personality and to translate that into a visual image. Students have extensive freedom in the final appearance of their self-portrait. The focus of this portrait is self-expression and craftsmanship. I am not concerned with artistic ability as much as the effort that a student exerts. If a student uses all provided time and focuses on completing their artwork they will receive high marks.
22 August 2012-06 September 2012 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Technology
Due to MAPS testing we have had to work outside the technology lab. We will be in multiple classrooms and work around the school. Students can expect to be out of the technology lab until 06 September 2012. We are working on a public art project and all warmups are created in a group setting or Community Circles. Students will receive full points for participation. When the art projects are complete I will provide a link for students and parents to view images of the finished products.
I would like to have students view the documentary "Exit Through the Gift Shop". The documentary was nominated for Best Documentary Feature in 2011 at the Academy Awards. I feel that it is a very, interesting, documentary that will assist students understand a contemporary art form that is extremely relevant for their generation. The students have been provided with consent forms to receive approval for me to show the documentary. There are 4-5 curse words and I want to ensure that parents and guardians are comfortable with their student viewing the documentary. The documentary is available on Hulu and Netflix Instant view. You may also view clips of the documentary on YouTube if you are interested in the content. Parents and guardians are encouraged to contact me if there are any questions or concerns regarding the content of the documentary.
