Today students investigated Jeremy Fish's technique of telling narrative stories through art. There is a clear link between Jeremy's artwork and color theory.

14September2011 Graphic Art
Students completed their t-shirt posters. Students must have three things done prior to their next class.
1. Complete a critique of your poster. You must write one paragraph for each requirement of the assignment. Explain what you did.
2. Turn in Project 3 on Moodle.

Students identified a person that inspired or motivated them. They wrote extensively in their Think Pads to elaborate on this concept. I shared a personal story to demonstrate the manner in which students should consider warm up questions.
Students received grades on the completion of yesterday's step. Students began cutting shapes out of their black paper today. Students must have all shapes cut out at the beginning of next class. We will begin the process of adding color to the artwork tomorrow.

Students created a Table of Contents for their Think Pads to assist them in locating information during discussion.
All students received their first grade for the Tiffany Glass project. Each step is graded to assist students in understanding the importance of planning and following directions. Planning is an important part of creating artwork. Students will be required to have their design complete on their black paper tomorrow.

12September2011 Graphic Art
Students began creating a poster to advertise the sale of club t-shirts. The funds raised from t-shirt sales supports the art department, assisting in purchasing supplies and different products. Students and teachers will choose a poster that will be displayed around the school to promote purchase of the t-shirts. Students will be working on this assignment throughout the week.

What is an element, and what would be elemental to art? Students identified things the would be elemental, building, blocks for artists? Students continued to explore line by defining 3 types and applying these types of line to natural and man-made objects.

Students continued their effort to define types of line. Students completed a warm up that challenged them to consider the different uses for line in artwork. They began their primary project for this line unit. They will be using shape and line to create an interesting, all-over, design.

Each teacher at PVMS requires students to always have 5 items; pencil, paper, class materials(book, etc.), AR book, and planner. Signs are posted in each classroom. Graphic art students are creating this year's sign. Each student will work individually, vote as a class, and then the teachers will vote to choose the sign that will be used in the school.

Student completed an initial experiment in using line in their artwork.

Following a video on pinstriping students used tempera paint and construction paper to simulate a similar experience. They used only line and points. At the end of class, students were challenged to identify at least five non-traditional art related jobs that include art in the job.

Students presented their self-expression projects. They introduced themselves to the class and explained their work. Students began critique with the first of four steps, define. The focus of this step of artwork is defining what you see prior to make a judgment.

Students created signs for all teachers in the building. This activity exposed students to practical purposes of graphic art.
